Enrichment - McAuley Sixth Form

There are many opportunities for students to develop new skills, take leadership roles and ‘get involved’ in the vibrant extra curricular life of the school as well as make valuable contributions to the wider community through our varied enrichment program. Students flourish in the McAuley Sixth Form and leave us as confident young adults with the skills, qualifications, values and zest for lifelong learning needed for success in the next chapters of their life.

Mature Citizens' Party. Every Christmas, McAuley Sixth Form invites mature citizens from across the diocese into the school for an afternoon of entertainment. Last year’s party included a performance by Sixth Form and staff choirs, a raffle, and festive refreshments, with Santa Claus also making a surprise visit!

LAMA Week. Towards the end of Y12, all students take part in LAMA (Life after McAuley) week. The week includes workshops on university applications, apprenticeships, gap years and much more. This allows students to make informed decisions about their future after Sixth Form.
Faith and Light Party. Each year McAuley invites sick and disabled parishioners into the school for an enjoyable afternoon set up and led by Sixth Formers and consisting of a disco and refreshments.
Music Concerts. McAuley has a reputation for the high quality of its musical concerts. There are over 14 music groups and ensembles that Sixth Form musicians can take part in. These are showcased in regular concerts held throughout the year at venues ranging from museums, the theatre and feeder schools culminating in a week long Orchestral Course at the end of the academic year.
Lourdes. The annual pilgrimage to Lourdes has become part of McAuley Sixth Form tradition, and is a trip only offered to Sixth Form students. Students are responsible for caring for a pilgrim for a week and, whilst it is hard work, all agree it is a vastly rewarding and often life changing experience.
First Aid Training. All Sixth Formers are offered First Aid training. This is a vital skill for the future and enhances any CV and a valuable addition to any UCAS/employment application.
World Language Day. The Sixth Form held a ‘China Day’ to celebrate World Language Day. Workshops included calligraphy, folk dancing and kung fu, which gave a taste of a different culture and raised students' awareness of this area of the world.
Sixth Form Live Lounge. The Sixth Form ‘Live Lounge’ is HUGELY popular! It is held during a lunchtime in the Common Room and is planned and delivered by students themselves. The organisation process allows students to take responsibility and work as a team whilst budding musicians are given a chance to showcase their talents.
CAFOD. Sixth Form students are offered the chance to become a CAFOD Young Leader; an opportunity many have taken up on over the last two years. Occasions have included attending national conferences in London and making speeches in front of local MPs.
Dress Up Days. The annual ‘Themed Dress Up Day’ has become part of Sixth Form culture, and is exclusive to the Sixth Form. Recent themes have included Cartoon Characters, Super Heroes v Villains and Children’s Classics, and have been well received by all students and staff.
Berlin Trip. History and Film Studies students are offered the opportunity to go to Berlin each year. Students visit Auschwitz, museums and historical landmarks in what is a thoroughly enjoyable, yet thought-provoking trip.
